Get Productive: Stop discounting success

By August 28, 2014No Comments

Neens half marathonDo you ever forget to look at your achievements, discount current successes and only focus on the next project/goal/budget?

I am training for my first marathon, (not words I thought would ever come out of my mouth), especially since I started running only four months ago. Part of my training includes competing in shorter races. Last weekend I entered a 1/2 marathon. You might think I would have been proud of finishing that race, however I was disappointed I missed my goal by ten minutes. I was sharing this with my best friend who said ‘that’s what you do. You do it, and then move on. You are onto the next thing.’

In our culture where we are constantly striving, with crazy, deadline driven lives, it is easy to be so busy living that we forget to celebrate life.

Occasionally it is worthwhile to stop and reflect on what you have achieved, how far you have come and celebrate success.

Today I challenge you to invest time to stop and reflect, celebrate your successes, reach out to someone who has done a great job and remind them you think they are awesome.

Celebrate success – after the race, my reward was driving to the beach to spend a few days playing with my best friend and her adorable girls.  Schedule time in your calendar to celebrate the next successes of you and your team.

Reach out invest 15 minutes today to remind people around you that you are proud of them, they are important to you and they matter. I wrote notes to people who helped achieve the goal to say thank you.

Declare your next goal – write it down, share it with someone, post it on social media – do whatever you have to do to make yourself accountable and driven to achieve your next goal.

Stop discounting your success. Share good news with your team and celebrate their successes regularly.

We’d love to hear your thoughts. Who keeps you accountable to your goals and helps you celebrate success?  Share your ideas with us here on our blog.
