As a busy executive and productive road warrior we want you to be safe and develop systems you can while you travel use so we interviewed Carol Fredrickson, CEO of Violence Free to provide us with some strategies for those of you who are often in airports, hotels and conference facilities.
Choose luggage tags – Avoid the laminated tags made from business cards that show your company name, your name and your position. Instead use covered luggage tags, keeping your personal information private.
Update personal profiles – For hotels you frequent for business make a note to advise them if you are traveling alone and advise under no circumstances are additional keys to be provided to anyone.
Ask for non-adjoining rooms –Unless you really need it.
Room requests – Ensure the hotel doesn’t assign you to a room at the end of a long hallway near the stairwell, if they do, ask them to reassign a room for you.
We would add to Carol’s great suggestions a few additional considerations especially for women traveling alone:
Don’t give out your room number – regardless of who you are with always keep this information private.
Be aware in the elevator – Allow other guest to enter their floor number before you enter your own – especially if there are only two of you in the elevator.
Don’t drink in the bar alone – We consciously choose room service rather than hotel lobby bars to avoid any unnecessary attention or conversation.
Use valet parking – Where possible always use the valet service so the staff bring your car to you instead of you being alone in parking garages at night.
What are your ideas on how you can be a safe road warrior, we’d love to hear your ideas with us here on our blog.
