It’s no secret… Laurie Palau from simply b organized is our favorite personal organizer and she has some great practical tips on how to get organized for the holidays for those of you hosting Thanksgiving.
Don’t get stressed out, take her advice and you will enjoy an amazing Thanksgiving surrounded by people you love.
Remember you don’t have time to do everything, only time to do what matters.
The countdown has begun…10 days and counting until Turkey Day!
For anyone who has ever hosted Thanksgiving dinner I don’t have to tell you how much prep work, planning, and timely execution goes into making dinner go off without a hitch.
If this is your first time hosting Thanksgiving, it can seem overwhelming. I remember the first time I hosted…let’s just say there wasn’t enough wine to chill me out from feeling so much pressure to create the perfect meal.
Over the years I’ve learned to relax, enjoy the process, and above all else, be prepared.
Below is my timeline to help you along the way:
1 week before:
Finalize your menu
Confirm guest list
Make your grocery list
Shop for non-perishables
2 days before:
Brine your turkey
Shop for perishable items
Decide seating arrangements
Take out table linens
1 day before:
Prep sides
Set table(s)
Print out menu
Take out serving pieces (and label)
Thanksgiving Day:
Put turkey in the oven
Mix cocktails
Prep last minute items
Leave ample time to cook sides
Whether you are hosting a big crowd or a small family meal, you can still make it special. Let people help if they offer. No one expects you to do it alone! If you are not hosting Thanksgiving, be sure to bring a hostess gift. It doesn’t have to be expensive, a small thoughtful token of appreciation is more than enough.
My last bit of organizing advice: take pictures. Thanksgiving is a time to make memories and enjoy with loved ones. It’s not often when entire families are together so take advantage of it and capture the moment.
Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Organizing!
