While in Bali recently at the Thought Leaders partner retreat one of the brilliant partners, Michael Henderson led a conversation about KPIs (key performance indicators) he shared the mantra originated from the New Zealand America’s Cup team ‘Does it make the boat go faster?’ – This mantra was the filter they used for all their decisions. You can read Pete Cook’s blog about our conversation here
The simplicity of this great mantra got me thinking about those of us who are building a thought leadership practices based on our expertise.
In the Thought Leadership community the game we choose to play in our practice is earning $500K – $1.5M per year working 50 – 200 days per year with 1 – 2 support staff. We track this measuring our monthly revenue targets.
A KPI needs to be where we focus our time and energy. When making a decision for those of you running a practice you might consider this question or mantra:
“Is this a dollar productive activity?”
The simplicity of this mantra appeals to me. If you want to get clear on how to spend your time, what activities to delete (or stop) and where you need to focus your attention, this could be your new mantra.
How do you stay focused in your day? What is a great KPI for your practice?
We’d love to hear from you, share your ideas with us here on our blog.
