Get Hyper focused: 3 Strategies to Get more done

By June 5, 2014No Comments

A Sunday afternoon drive in our red car through Lancaster PA includes seeing gorgeous horse and buggy transport used by the Amish.  If you don’t know about Amish community, some choose to live their lives without modern technology, simple living and plain dress (you know this girl could never do that!). What fascinate me about the horses were their blinkers. These blinkers protect their eyes and ultimately their passengers so they can stay super focused on their job and not distracted by the noisy cars around them. Maybe we all need blinkers?

If you are feeling overwhelmed, overtired or over stressed these solutions will help you stay hyper focused and get more done so you can get on with it, and create more significant moments in life that matter.

You don’t have time to do everything, only time to do what matters.

Block time – play a game with time, set your iPhone timer, choose 15 dedicated minutes and see how much you can get done. In 15 minutes you can do a drive by on social media, call a client, call your mum (yes that’s how we spell it Down Under) and you can answer email. Block time for project completion.

Switch off – turn off bells, whistles, pop ups (anything that distracts you). We love the app Anti social for Mac as it is a social media blocking site and you can set it for periods of time (so you aren’t tempted to play on Facebook instead of writing a proposal or preparing for a presentation… just sayin’). Turn off the ringer on your phones and allow yourself to focus on the project or task. Amazing what you can achieve when you do this.

Know why – it’s important to understand why you do what you do. If you get more done at work you won’t have to think about it when you get home. If you are traveling and can be productive on the road when you arrive home you can be focused on those you love. If you get more done each day you don’t waste time on weekends trying to catch up. Know your bigger reason of why – and remind yourself regularly.

One of my ah-mazing friends says ‘just do it, you’ll be so glad you did’.

How do you stay focused? We’d love to hear your thoughts, share your ideas with us here on our blog.
