Practice Gratefulness

By September 19, 2014One Comment

Siting in Columbia, SC Metropolitan airport surrounded by young, brave men and women in uniform I was reminded how fortunate we are every day to make choices on how we invest our time and the impact of those choices.

These young leaders have chosen a life to serve their country where they could be called on to go anywhere in the world to share their expertise for the benefit of others. They are dedicated, strong, brave and as I looked at each of their faces…. they were joyful. It seemed many finished basic training and had their orders and they were ready to make their impact on the world.

As an Aussie living in America, I feel incredibly proud (even though I am not from this country) and astounded at the patriotism and choices people make and was surprised by how their presence impacted me.

I had been struggling with a decision and the consequences of that so-called ‘big decision’ and as I looked around at these leaders my thoughts and concerns seemed silly and inconsequential…. Their uniforms, their commitment, and their service – gave me perspective.

Today I challenge you to take a few minutes to gain perspective, practice gratefulness and realize the impact of the choices we get to make daily. I have the freedom to wake up in my own soft bed, go for a run in pretty countryside, and cuddle someone I love.  These soldiers reminded me of all that.  I was grateful for each one in the airport and their families they leave behind

Do people know the impact they have on you?

When was the last time you reminded someone of the impact they have in your life?

Today reach out, remind someone they inspire you, influence you and impact you – you will be so glad you did.

We’d love to hear your thoughts, what did you think, share your ideas with us here on our blog.

  • Neen, my father was a US Marine in WWII so as a daughter of a Marine I’m particularly grateful for living in the USA and how blessed to have you here enjoying our country and spreading your Aussie joy!

Recently (10 days ago) I had the great delight of being on a trip in Italy where two of my pals were from Australia and what fun my husband and I had with them. So help me, I’m going one of these days. I only know a handful of people from Australia and count Australian Chardonnay as my #1 favorite but I feel so happy to make all the associations.

Lastly, yes, we need to show our friends, tell our friends how they inspire us. One of my friends who is in her mid 60’s just became a yoga instructor. She found yoga comforting after the loss of her son. She inspires me by her strength and devotion to her yoga practice. Today was her first official class and I – along with some of her other friends – attended.

    Thanks for always “inspiring us.”

    Hugs from MJ
