How can leaders role model luxury? We can start by transforming ordinary moments into exceptional experiences.
The Cambridge Dictionary defines transformation as “a complete change in the appearance or character of something or someone.” As leaders, our greatest opportunity isn’t just changing processes or increasing profits—it’s completely reimagining how our teams and clients experience our business, regardless of what we sell.
True luxury isn’t about price tags or exclusive access. It’s about intention, attention, and creating moments that matter.
Fat Beet Farm: Cultivating Luxury in Everyday Experiences
The sign read Fat Beet Farm, and I was intrigued. I had waited forever for this empty plot of land on a busy street in my neighborhood to become something and then it happened! A tiny little farm stand, stunningly merchandised with fresh produce and home made baked goods—I was hooked! I texted all my friends and told them to get there immediately—that was the first time I fell in love with Fat Beet Farm.
My grandfather had a farm and I loved visiting him. My mum picked lettuce and strawberries on farms when I was growing up. Even though I am a city girl who loves architecture and city lights, farms are special to me and the people who run them are some of the most incredibly generous, hardworking, and kind people on earth.
It has been a remarkable transformation from what began as a simple roadside farm stand that has blossomed into a Tampa Bay destination that embodies luxury at every touchpoint—without the pretense or price point of traditional luxury brands.
Led by Jen and her family, Fat Beet Farm demonstrates how transformational leadership turns ordinary experiences into exceptional ones:
Personalized Attention: Her staff recognize regulars and call us by name, but they also make newcomers feel instantly welcome. This simple practice—learning and using names—costs nothing but transforms how people feel about their visit. I want the world to feel seen and heard so I love this!
Multi-sensory Experiences: From yoga sessions in their signature big red barn with a view out to the crops, to farm-to-table gourmet dinners under the stars, Fat Beet engages all five senses. The farm invites children from urban environments to experience agricultural life firsthand, feed the goats, meet the chickens, and grow their own microgreens, creating lasting memories that go far beyond a typical retail transaction.
Consistent, Beautiful Touchpoints: Every element—from the carefully merchandised displays and pre-prepared take home meals to the branded packaging for their farm boxes—reflects thoughtful attention to detail. Nothing feels accidental or overlooked.
Community Connection: By opening their Big Red Barn for weddings, baby showers, and engagement parties, they’ve transformed from a business into a cherished community landmark where life’s most significant moments unfold. They often host pop up events, holiday markets, and feature local bee keepers, growers, and restaurant partnerships.
I think another reason I love Fat Beet Farm is that they make every visitor feel seen and heard. Jen always greets me with a big cuddle and shares her excitement of the week’s produce or the latest bakery item her daughter has created. These little moments matter.
