Notes from Neen: Are you Coaching with Style?

By August 27, 2024No Comments

Do you have a coach?

If not, let’s chat about coaching. Why? Because coaches accelerate your career.

I’m not talking about the noisy, whistle-blowing, frenetic court-side kind; I’m talking about the kind of luxe, executive-level coaching that transforms teams and turns potential into performance!

Every great leader knows that being a coach isn’t just about providing timely feedback. It’s about becoming your team’s ultimate cheerleader — someone who stands on the sidelines, guiding, motivating, and celebrating success with style.

Think of it like this: A great coach is ready to help you conduct a gap analysis, create an accountability plan, confirm cadence, and, most importantly, celebrate the wins! And much like a great outfit, coaching is about tailoring your approach to fit every unique situation.

I love my role as confidante for many of my CEOs and C-suite executives across multiple industries — from media moguls to medical masters, luxury brand leaders, and hospitality heroes. And one thing is true of all of them: it can be lonely at the top. Do you know that even the best coaches often have coaches themselves?

My executive coaching clients really value having a confidential sounding board. Someone who can be objective, share tough advice when required, and be brutally honest all the time, is not only needed, but refreshing to many leaders! After I shared my honest opinion with one of my Fortune 50 executives he leaned back in his chair, eyes narrowing, frowning at me and said: “Neen James, no one speaks to me the way you do.” Without skipping a beat I replied, “Because people are scared of you and I am not! If you want to appeal to the board and have your team achieve their full potential, you will listen to what I am telling you.” — and he did!

One of my media executives was grappling with how to elevate the presence of three of his team members. They were technically brilliant but lacking in executive presence and being asked to continually present to very senior leadership. Working with each of them 1:1 was a treat for me and watching them shine at a major event felt like being a proud parent! They did the work. They applied all the coaching I provided to them and now they are even more equipped for future events and to share their learnings with their team.

One of my medical coaching clients was able to navigate a very tricky, political corporate situation and we were able to reengineer the team, update the KPIs and deliverables and the Board was ecstatic! Once again, I imagined how proud parents must feel.

Last week one of my luxury travel leaders shared that they had been applying the Luxury Mindset research coaching I gave them and they have accelerated working with the UHNW clientele — that makes me so happy!

As the go-to resource for leaders who demand nothing but the best of themselves and their teams, it’s a privilege to work so closely with these executives who are often surrounded by people who aren’t always comfortable sharing hard truths. So my job is to make sure they focus on what really matters, keeping their board and investors happy, while growing the business and helping their team achieve their full potential.
