This powerful phrase was shared by a friend Sean Richardson recently on a discussion group and it stopped me in my tracks.
I am not sure of the original source (seems many people will take credit for this cleverness). It got me thinking… and reflecting…. And caused me to do an audit.
Was that really true?
Read it s-l-o-w-l-y… ‘the way you do anything is the way you do everything’.
Yep for me, it’s definitely true. It’s challenging to be honest about the ‘anything’ word. One of my friends calls me a ‘force of nature’ (when first heard that I wondered what he meant) and meeting planner clients often call me the energizer bunny for their meetings (but my batteries don’t run out… well maybe they last longer than others). These names caused me to wonder, why do people describe me this way?
If the way I do ‘anything’ is the way I do everything was this true for me? Is it true for you?
At the time of writing our theme for this quarter is ‘Intensity’ – this means different things to different people. It is a word we wrote on a post-it note that has become my mantra, my focus, my obsession. Maybe that’s the way I do everything?
If I love you, you will feel it, you will know it and you won’t doubt it!
If I am excited, be careful… you might find it contagious.
If I believe in a cause, you also need to be careful… because I will probably recruit you!
And yet truthfully there are occasional days when I get totally distracted, would much rather be on Facebook and seeing other people’s lives, or procrastinate on writing a blog (like today)… some might even call this unproductive (shhhhh don’t tell anyone!)
And when you have those totally unproductive, distracted, ugly days, remind yourself it is temporary and it is not your normal ‘anything’ – make the decision to make your ‘anything’ fabulous!
To be productive, you need to know your ‘anything’.
How you do ‘anything’ is how you do everything. Be your authentic self and discover how you turn up. Do you live life with intensity, passion, excitement, wonder, awe, and gratitude? OR… do you just accept your circumstance, go about your day with no focus, no intensity, no resolve?
What is your anything?
