A VIP is a very inspiring person.
Surround yourself with people who are impressive to you, who inspire you to be better, do better and make the world a better place because you are in it. Spending time with VIPs motivates and invigorates you and ultimately accelerates your productivity.
Spending time with VDPS (very draining people) kills your productivity. Simple – eliminate VDPs and choose only VIPs.
Have you ever eaten a huge meal that looked amazing but once you had eaten it you regretted your decision. That meal made you feel uncomfortably full and caused you to want to go and take a little nap. That’s what VDPs do, they rob you of energy and demotivate you.
When I first moved to Doylestown, PA from Sydney, Australia I contacted a speaker who lived in my area. I was so excited to find a speaker living close by I thought for sure we’d hit it off. And we did… initially.
As time progressed and we spent more time together I realized she was one of the most negative people I had ever met. Her outlook on life was different to mine, she had her share of challenges and I have no right to make any assessments about what her attitude should or could be.
I found myself dreading our time together; making excuses not to connect with her until eventually I had to share with her the truth. It was my issue, not hers however I found her negativity hard to be around. She was indeed a VDP. Such a shame, I am not proud of this, I hoped my crazy Pollyanna-view of the world might rub off on her, but alas it didn’t and so I ended it. It was awkward. Eliminating VDPs in your life is tough and not always possible.
One of the VIPs in my life is my special friend Donavan. When I moved to the US he was only 5. I adore him. He has a crazy laugh, is incredibly inquisitive and when he talks with you he gives you his undivided attention. Rare for a kid his age and yet he is one of the most engaging people I know. Spending time with him is always a treat. If you want more VIPs in your life, look around at the kids you know, their zeal for life and desire to grow will definitely rub off on you.
When you are in control of your time choose to invest wisely with VIPs only.

G’Day Gorgeous,
I think we’ve all had to make an awkwardly-necessary VDP removal at some point in our lives and will unfortunately have to again in the future. The good news is, there are a few more precious ‘Donavans’ out there waiting for us to connect with them…. and they balance out the polyyanna scale . 🙂
Health & Happiness,
M
