Ever lose track of the time?
Ever have your cell phone battery die?
Ever have your mophie run out of juice?
Ever have a flat battery in your car when you arrived at the airport late at night because you left the internal light on?
Ever miss your flight?
Ever have all that happen in one day? Yep… pick me!
I am very fortunate that my speaking practice takes me to some really cool places with really cool people… some days are just way too much fun.
Last Thursday started out as an awesome day in San Antonio, gorgeous weather, amazing audience, fun, interactive and I headed to the airport on time. First flight of the day was great. I glanced down at my watch and thought there was time to pop into US Airways lounge and freshen up (thinking I had an extra hour up my sleeve). Oh how wrong I was.
Sat down with a coffee, did some work and then thought would wander down to the gate to board. Upon arriving at the gate couldn’t see my flight on the board, that’s weird, right? Well not really. Silly me had forgotten to wind my watch forward an hour.
I pride myself on my ‘time’ awareness, I am rarely late and sometimes the universe (or whatever you want to call it) reminds us to keep our ego in check – Thursday was one of those days.
Sometimes despite all contingency planning in the world, back up systems, power packs and routines… we get it wrong. The important thing is how we handle it.
If you know me, you will realize my instant reaction was to giggle, almost deliriously admittedly. I laughed and laughed because that was the choice I made.
When you get stranded or your day (or travel plans) doesn’t go as planned, how do you react? If I had paid attention to one small detail… my day would have been completely different. What do you need to pay more attention to?
Do you have a day like this? We’d love to hear your thoughts on our blog of how you reacted, share your ideas with us here on our blog.
