It’s no secret I love a to-do list. However sometimes I wonder if the right things make it on our to-do lists?
With a busy start to this year and a crazy upcoming travel and speaking calendar for the next 10 weeks, today I took time to collect all my projects, action items, books to be written, articles to be read, business cards to be actioned, papers to be filed, insurance papers to be reviewed… well you get the idea! I put it all in one place.
It took me several hours however with now just one basket of items and a three-page (yep you read that right) to-do list for work and home I actually feel lighter. I took a moment to write and attach a post-it note the actions required for every file, paper etc. Even though the to-do list could be overwhelming (which it is) there is something reassuring about seeing it all on paper instead of seeming like a bigger deal inside my crazy brain. Does that make sense?
This simple act of pulling all projects, action items, magazine articles, paperwork in one place makes it ‘feel’ more organized. Some might say it is a form of procrastination (and maybe they are right) however I found it a lovely way to spend my Sunday morning to help get clarity around my true priorities this week in the precious time I do have between delivering programs for clients and traveling in the coming weeks.
Maybe it would make you feel lighter too? Maybe you could set aside 15-60 minutes and make one big pile, one big to-do list and take it from there? Maybe you will feel more productive too?
