Keep up to date by reading relevant journals, internet information, newspapers and media reports. Subscribe to relevant associations and publications to keep your knowledge current.

Learn how to use technology

Ask your manager / supervisor to approve courses you wish to attend. Seek our information about operational skills, personal development or interest areas. Make an action plan of how you are going to apply what you learn on the courses.

Strive to be the best in your current role. Learn all you can about the role, customers and processes.

Go beyond others expectations

Deliver more than you promise your boss, customers, staff members or peers. Do the extra things that will help you be remembered.

Be a confident presenter

Ensure you feel confident in meetings to enable you to present or introduce someone or a topic. Enrol in Toastmasters or do a presentation course to increase your skills and eliminate your fears.

Stop and write down what you are good at. Focus on your strengths and review your previous experiences and achievements. Remind yourself you are doing a great job.

Promote yourself

Let others know what you are working on, show managers / superiors complimentary letters / emails or correspondence from satisfied customers or peers. Be brave – tell someone your achievements.

Relax

Spend time focussing on other areas of your life, take up a hobby, join a sporting team, go for a walk and fill your life with fun.
